OWEN'S LEMONADE STAND
Whale sharks are an endangered species, and organizations around the world are working together to raise awareness and stand up for these gentle giants. However, one little boy from California is taking a stand in his own way – by hosting a lemonade stand. Nine-year-old Owen has been fascinated by sharks since he was two years old, but his love for whale sharks really began when he was in second grade. Since then, he has been hosting a lemonade stand in front of his house once a month, setting himself a goal of raising $25 to donate to whale shark conservation. This young whale shark ambassador has surpassed that goal, and has raised more than $275 for this endangered species – even when he’s never seen one. As the only Aquarium in the western hemisphere to have whale sharks, Georgia Aquarium knew they had to change that.
Join Owen at Georgia Aquarium for International Whale Shark Day on August 30 where he will be hosting a lemonade stand, or donate online today. All of the profits will be donated to the Marine Megafauna Foundation for whale shark research and conservation efforts.
